Suorahankinnan perustelut
BACKGROUND INFO
One of the research areas of Tampere University Aerosol Physics Laboratory (APL) focuses on the research of new particle formation and climate effects of anthropogenic emissions. The existing research infrastructure includes extensive instrumentation for measuring concentrations of various gaseous compounds and for characterizing particulate matter in the particle size range starting from approximately 1 nm.
To deepen the understanding of the chemical composition of both the aerosol particles and the gaseous compounds, the infrastructure is also equipped with state-of-the art aerosol and chemical ionization mass spectrometers capable of atmospheric pressure sampling.
NEED
The APL is seeking a multicomponent gas analyzer. The analyzer must be a single instrument, capable of simultaneous measurement of the concentrations of caseous compounds listed in table 1 with a temporal resolution of one second. The targeted measurement range and limit of detection (1 ) for one second time resolution are also presented in table 1.
Table 1. Targeted gaseous compounds with their measurement ranges and detection limits
Component Measurement range Limit of detection
CO2 0 – 8000 ppm <2 ppm
CH4 0 – 150 ppm <1 ppb
NH3 0 – 15 ppm <0.5 ppb
O3 0 – 300 ppm <5 ppb
SO2 0 – 150 ppm <5 ppb
H2O 0 – 40 000 ppm <30 ppm
NO2 0 – 40 ppm <1 ppb
The intended use of the instrument includes field campaigns and use in mobile settings; therefore, it must be suitable for operation in such conditions.
The instrument must also meet practical constraints for mobility: a maximum weight of 30 kg, dimensions of approximately 0.5 m × 0.3 m × 1 m, and the power consumption should not exceed 300 W. Additionally, the instrument must be capable of continuous, unattended operation for periods of at least seven days.
MARKET ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSION FOR DIRECT AWARD
According to contracting authority’s knowledge, the Miro MGA series instrument offered by HNU-Nordion Ltd Oy is the only instrument on the market fulfilling all requirements specified above. This instrument is specifically tailored for the purpose. For the proper market survey purposes contracting authority has studied instrument offerings of several manufacturers but has not found another instrument fulfilling all requirements.
